Silicone - Metal Dichotomies

Collaboration with Koen Giesen

Can Metal and Silicone be Seductive? Aesthetic Explorations through Fabrication.

I adopted a methodical approach to material selection through tactile trialling with samples, which underscored the importance of using materials as the foundation in my interaction design work. This rigorous process involved hands-on testing and sensory evaluation, allowing me to identify and select fewer, more impactful materials for mapping and design purposes.

Constraining explorations to the concept of ‘seductive,’ I explored the balance between metal and silicone in my designs. By harnessing these materials' contrasting properties and aesthetics, I crafted artefacts that exemplify the harmony between the cold rigidity of metal and silicone's supple, seductive flexibility. This approach enhanced the functional aspects of the designs and elevated the user experience through a careful balance of tactile and visual elements, demonstrating how different textures and physical properties can influence interaction and engagement with the product.
